This is a military with a saber-type hanger and a knot, believed to be from the Meiji era (estimated) of the former Imperial Japanese Army.
A knot (tōcho) is a cord attached to the pommel's monkey fist, primarily found on military from the Meiji period onwards. It served the purpose of preventing the from falling out when drawn by passing it through the wrist, and also acted as a decorative element indicating rank and affiliation. In the case of the Army, the color, material, and shape varied depending on the rank.
